about

“ The truth is, for the past twenty years, I’ve been making miserable
Music” says Aaron DeRuyter. “So people have this idea that I’m a sad dude because I choose to examine things a bit more critical…I think we could all be better to each other and for ourselves. Humans are obsessed with how they are seen and so worried about everyone following in a line, the norm is anything but normal. That’s how I see it, so that’s what I sing about.”
Today, DeRuyter is releasing “Godsend”, the first single from his forthcoming album “ Songs for dismal times”, slated to be released sometime this month.
In the late 1990’s DeRuyter fronted the Rochester post grunge/ art project, Pompous Pilate , releasing two acclaimed full lengths and a live album.
In 2007 he released his first solo album under the moniker “ DeVall music”. “Transit “ sold over 4000 hard copies out of a suitcase and the solo project became a leading force in the East coast Neo-folk revival. So much that by the time he shelved from the project, it was a 7 seven-piece crowd thriller headlining most of the Festivals in the region. DeVall Music gave birth to a 10 year obsession with Old time and Traditional Music in the formation of Landmark who played their last show in 2017.
His 2017 independent solo album "Astral" turned heads with it's atmospheric layers and crisp vocals atop DeRuyter's characteristic down beat melodies and lyric style.
Although he has no plans to gig this year and fully plans to be deep in the studio by August, DeRuyter says he will have an album release in Rochester with his band, The Confluence.

about

Aaron DeRuyter Rochester, New York

DeRuyter expands the boundaries of Americana music by combining acoustic and electronic elements. He writes haunting soliloquies and sings with a spiritual expansiveness. He delivers an ambient blend of folk, grunge, psychedelic rock, and alternative country that meanders inconsistently through the boundaries of genre and space.
